2 Simple Steps to Eliminate Stink in Yoga Gear.

This blog post will be the simplest solution on how to get your stinky yoga clothes, yoga towel, yoga rug or any other piece of athletic gear that is textile based to not have that foul smell. You know, when you are mid way through a power vinyasa yoga hot and sweaty class and you get the whiff. Or, you are putting on yoga pants and a sports bra in preparation for your class in a few hours, there it is again, that horrible smelly, rotten, almost stinky shoes smell. Or you are going through your workout clothes drawer, sorting through your DryFIT, yoga tops, gym wear, sports bras, leggings, hot pants, LuLulemon shorts, tank tops, any and all sports wear, and they all stink, ugh! It doesn’t seem to matter that you regularly douse your clothes or yoga towel with detergent, ‘sports wash’ or Oxy-whatever, in the washing machine – and low and behold after the drying cycle, boom, still stinks to high heaven. Yep, we have all been through it. So, why, and how, do you salvage your athletic wear or favorite fitting yoga top after you think the stink has sunk in permanently? Well, here ya go...

The why?

First of all, sweat is for all intents and purposes sterile, meaning it comes from the body purely, and sweat is made up of 99% water and 1% salt and fat. Sweat doesn’t stink, in and of itself. However, once the sweat is outside the body, wicked away by your modern day sports technical wear, it is then exposed to bacteria, not harmful bacteria so don’t freak, but bacteria that grows, multiplies and has a foul odor. This bacteria (foul odor) adheres best to synthetic material that most athletic wear is manufactured with or combined with for stretch and comfort. Pair that with throwing your sweaty wet cloths directly into your washing machine seals in that bacteria (odor), and ultimately doesn’t let go of the odor - hence the whiff.

The Solution: 2 Simple Steps to No Stink Gear…

So now you have had your class, or played your sport, run, you sweat a little or your ass off, you need to shower and go, or shower and sleep. Some of us rip the sports wear off right away, put them on the floor of the closet or directly into the laundry basket waiting for the next wash load. Maybe, some of us stuff it in a plastic bag that they offer at your studio, gym or athletic club. OR some may wrap the damp soaking wet cloths up in a towel and keep in a gym bag or backpack until getting home from work – to then throw in the wash still damp or wet. This last sentence is one thing to not do. Now to the 2 simple steps.

  1. After a sweaty workout, take off the wet gear and hang them up to dry out completely. Like, dried out to a crisp. I happen to love putting it in the sun hanging over my deck rail as the sun will dry it faster and kill off bacteria. For those who have it in their gym bag or wrapped up and bunched up in the car, when you get home simply do the same thing.
  2. After it is dried out, then throw in the wash as directed and either hang dry or machine dry, and boom, no stink.

This is One of the Top Reasons I Built the Hottest Trend in Yoga

My experience with the foul odor of my common microfiber yoga towel led me to developing the stink free ridgeback® yoga rug. I intentionally designed an easy way to hang dry with the placement of the drishti grommet that fits on any standard hook. We meticulously curated a tactile 100% cotton base with NO synthetic microfibers, ensuring a better environment with no micro plastic that inevitably runs off into our water supply and oceans. This yoga rug is the most absorbent, non pooling sanctuary for the most satisfying savasana and aids with the yogi’s grip. Yep, you heard that right, simply hang dry after practice it will dry out and be ready to go for the next practice with no foul odor. Other performance benefits is the ridgeback yoga rug will not move the entire practice, whether you do hot yoga, heated yoga, power yoga, Bikram, yoga sculpt, ashtanga, Baptiste, hatha or HIIT. Experience yourself the hottest trending yoga rug accessory on the market. Once you experience the ridgeback yoga rug you will never go back to the stinky fidgety towel.

So, boom, you have a whole new wardrobe without shopping, except for those of you that haven’t yet gotten the revolutionary ridgeback yoga rug. ;)
